Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan defeated Venus Williams 6-4, 6-1 in a rain-delayed first-round match at the WTA 1000 National Bank Open on Sunday. Williams, 46, received a wild-card entry into the main draw and has now lost 12 consecutive matches since July 2025. Rakhimova, 24, is currently ranked 82nd in the world.
There is a particular clarity in watching a tournament hand a wild card to a player on a year-long losing streak and then act surprised when the streak extends to thirteen.
